In Australia, the emergency services are facing difficulties engaging and retaining volunteers. So, it's important that volunteer leaders make every effort to retain the valuable people they already have. To improve volunteer retention, volunteer leaders can adopt a motivational approach, which helps volunteers feel competent, help them feel like they belong, and help them to feel autonomous within their roles in their volunteer brigade, group or unit.
Module 3: Leading can be used to guide volunteer management and improve leadership skills, such as how to better share responsibilities, provide feedback, recognise achievements and deal with conflicts.
This module includes reflection and thinking exercises, instructional videos and interviews, tip sheets and case studies that will help leaders manage volunteers more effectively in the future. Please note that this module is a large zipped file and may take a while to download.
